The Crypt at St Etheldreda’s has been hosting celebrity parties in the heart of London ever since King Henry VIII held his three-day wedding feast there in 1531. Today The Crypt offers the same superb food, wine and service as the legendary Bleeding Heart French Restaurant.

Big bottles of the Best Bubbles and a Gourmet Feast!


Join Xavier Gaulthier of Champagne Piper-Heidsieck in the Secret Cloister Garden of the Magical Medieval Crypt, adjoining Bleeding Heart Yard, for Jereboams – four bottles in a bottle – of properly chilled Piper – Heidsieck Brut essential to start our annual Champagne Club Magnum Club Dinner in true style on

Wednesday July 10 at 6.30 pm.

We will then cross the Cloister to The Crypt to sit down to a five-course gourmet feast accompanied by a taste four different iterations of Piper-Heidsieck, including the Blanc de Blancs and the Vintage Blanc de Blancs 2014.

With the main course of Truffled “Norfolk White” Chicken we shall move to New Zealand for a pretty Pinot Noir from Trinity Hill before returning to Champagne and the house of Piper-Heidsieck for the cheese and the dessert.

Champagne Piper Heidsieck was the favoured bubble of a range of diverse celebrities from Marie-Antoinette to Charlie Chaplin to Marilyn Monroe, who confessed she started every day with a chilled glass of Piper-Heidsieck for breakfast.

8am to 11am
Monday through Friday
in our Tavern Bar and Grill, on the corner of Bleeding Heart Yard.

And it will be bigger and better and more adventurous than ever – yes, Scrambled Eggs with Truffled Asparagus on Sourdough preceded by Overnight Quinoa Porridge with Cocunut Yoghurt, as well as The Full Skillet, our take on the full English breakfast – including Chef Billy’s Baked Beans.

We are fully licensed from 8am so if you have something to celebrate, or just need cheering up, try a glass of Piper Heidsieck’s finest, a Bucks Fizz, a Black Velvet or a Bloody Mary!
