The Medieval Crypt & The Cloister Garden in Ely Place
The magical medieval Crypt in Ely Place, adjoining Bleeding Heart Yard, is the perfect central London venue for a special Private Event for 50 to 200 guests – be it a Wedding Reception or a City Banquet. With its History of Celebration and Celebration of History, the 600 year–old Crypt beneath the ancient church of St Etheldreda’s has been hosting celebrity parties in the heart of London ever since King Henry VIII hosted a three-day wedding feast there in 1531, dining on Swans, Stuffed with Larks , stuffed with Sparrows.
Today The Crypt offers food, wine and service from the iconic Bleeding Heart French Restaurant next door - though sadly Swans are no longer on the menu.
Couples marrying in St Etheldreda’s Church can avail themselves of a special package combining their wedding service with a Wedding Reception below in the Crypt and the opportunity the use the Crypt’s Cloister Garden for their photographs.
